Cardiac Rehabilitation (Rehab) is a comprehensive program of education,
exercise, and support for persons with heart disease. The purpose
of cardiac rehab is to help patients:
- recover faster;
- modify cardiac risk factors;
- reduce the risk of future heart problems;
- return to the highest possible level of health and activity.
Cardiac
rehab provides a safe, supportive environment where patients can
make important lifestyle changes and benefit from the encouragement
and enthusiasm of other recovering heart patients.
Cardiac rehab is an important part of the treatment and recovery
for persons who are recovering from a heart attack, coronary artery
or heart valve surgery, balloon angioplasty or stable angina.
Program
Description
Cardiac rehab has two major components:
1) supervised exercise training, which helps strengthen the heart
and muscles, improves stamina, and allows the patient to exercise
safely and effectively; and 2) education and support, which will
helps patients understand their heart condition and learn how to
reduce the risk for future heart problems.
Exercise
One-hour
exercise sessions are conducted three times weekly at Hutchinson
Hospital. Each exercise program is individually tailored to meet
the patient's current level of recovery and general fitness. During
each exercise session, the patient wears a heart rate monitor, and
the heart rate and rhythm are watched continuously.

Rehab Staff
The Cardiac Rehab staff has specialized

Insurance
Coverage
Most insurance companies, including
Medicare and Blue Cross (except for Federal Blue Cross) cover 80
- 100% of the cost of cardiac rehabilitation. We recommend that
you contact your insurance provider prior to starting classes to
confirm the exact amount and length of coverage your policy provides.
The cardiac rehabilitation staff can help you with this.
